Single Estate - Santa Monica Colombia 2024
, from Single Estate. This was a special one, wine yeast fermentation. Very craft beer-like smell, a bit of wine straight out of the bag; reminiscent of hoppy white beers. Very delicate bean. We were advised to focus on V60 and to try in espresso only on our own risk.
Nose: flowers. Very bright, high clarity. It's almost as if you are drinking flowers. Despite the advice, still tried it for espresso: high intense taste. Compounded wine extract. Long and rich/complex finish. I like the structure better in espresso than v60, slightly more velvety instead of the high-clarity transparent V60 drink.
When grinding even finer, tasted salmiak. Over time wine taste reduces and makes room for more salty tones, liquorice. Mrs was hoping for tea-like but got more wine-like experience. Retasted at grinder setting 6 a couple weeks later. Beans were much better rested, resulting in a more subtle taste, very tasty. Reminiscent of dutch candy called "Wybertjes".Very fruity, not acidic at all. The last part of this bag was gifted to a friendly snoffeecob. My friends review in 5 words: "The whole house smelled funky".
Overall great experience, fun to try something new every once in a while, but the splurge was real 🙈
