Zuivere Koffie No1 2023

A roastery with a colorful background: The roasting operation is run within a local prison. They educate inmates in the process of roasting, packaging and serving coffee as part of reintegration into society. The coffee is then sold outside of the prison.

For a "medium roast" this is actually quite a dark roast. Bitters, spicy, a bit Robusta like tastes even though it is a blend of 3 pure Arabica beans. I got some sweet hint of those high percent coco chocolate bars. Good flow at Perfetto 1,5 grind setting. Curious to how black their "dark roast" is, if it is even darker than this one.

This bean makes for good optical contrast in latte-art, but for straight espresso it is a little too bitter for my comfort. Freshness of beans was ok, could be even better: I think it produced about half the crema that i'd get from a very fresh bean. As we have requested while buying the beans in the store in Zaandam: we'd love to try a light roast and discover a little more flavours in these Arabica beans!
