Localroast No1 Costa Rica
250 grams for €7.95, from Localroast.Whilst researching roasters that offer coffee subscriptions in the Netherlands I stumbled upon localroast. Localroast delivers coffee from several different local "micro roasters", most coming from Olaf Tromp's Spot On Coffee Roasters. As a great service to new customers like me, they have a 3 bag taster package which was an offer I could not refuse.
The first bag of three is the No1, a single origin coffee from Costa Rica. Surprisingly, the brew has a deep, strong dark taste, even though the beans are roasted quite lightly. This produced a slightly sour but not unpleasant shot.
After fine-tuning my dial-in (I ended up with 1,0 on the Perfetto) I got a perfect flow, resulting in a bunch more sweeter notes hidden in this bag of beans.
The sour notes I got before were far less pungent, I got some hints of marzipan, gingerbread and chocolate, even though the citrussy lemon stayed ever present.
I'd characterize the no1 as deep italian style, but with some added creaminess. It was not my favorite of the bags, please do read on to the no8 blend bag that was a lot closer to my personal taste.
